Accessory Drive Units information

The accessory drive unit is responsible for driving ancillary components of the engine, such as the following items:
● Air compressor
● Steering pump
● Water pump
● Fuel pump.
● Other items depending on engine configuration.

Different engine manufacturers have different designs on their accessory drive units. Some of these are ‘belt driven’ while others are ‘gear driven’ and some setups may utilize both geared connections and belt connections, depending on the number of ancillary items.

It is important to inspect the belt and gears of the accessory drive unit for wear and tear. Failure of the accessory drive or a bad serpentine belt can cause major problems.
